  • 6 Tbsp butter
  • 1/2 cup sugar

Yeast Mixture

  • 2 Tbsp Yeast
  • 1 Tbsp sugar
  • 1 cup luke warm water

Cinnamon Roll Dough

  • 3 large eggs
  • 7 cups flour

Cinnamon Roll Filling

  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • cinnamon to taste
  • 6 Tbsp melted butter
  • pecans, walnuts, or raisins (if desired)

Frosting

  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 Tbsp butter
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 4 Tbsp milk

Instructions

Cinnamon Rolls

  • In skillet, heat milk, 6T of the butter, and 1/2 cup of the sugar until the butter just melts. DO NOT BOIL. Then, set aside the mixture to cool.
  • In a seperate bowl, mix the yeast, 1T sugar, and the warm water. Let stand until foamy.
  • To the milk mixture, add eggs and 4 cups of the flour. Mix well. Then add the yeast mixture and remaining 2-3 cups of flour to make a smooth dough.
  • Oil a new bowl and place the dough inside. Flip the dough over so that both sides of the dough ball are coated with oil. Cover with a towel and let rise for 1 hour. (After an hour, the dough should have just about doubled)
  • Before rolling out the dough, make sure to cover the surface you will roll on with plenty of flour to avoid the dough sticking. Roll the dough into a rectangle and brush liberally with 4T of melted butter.
  • Spread 1 cup of brown sugar and a sprinkle of cinnamon on top. You can also add nuts (pecans work best) or raisins if you would like.
  • Roll a rolling pin overtop of everything to set the ingredients. Then drizzle everything with 2T of melted butter.
  • Roll up the dough slowly from the long end.
  • Slice the roll into 1" wide slices and place them on a well oiled baking sheet. Brush with remaining 2T melted butter.
  • Bake at 375 degrees for 18-20 minutes. If you want your cinnamon rolls to be even softer on top, you can also brush with additional butter halfway through baking.

Frosting

  • While the cinnamon rolls are still warm, make the icing for the top. Combine the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla using a whisk. This will make a thinner icing that will melt over the tops of each cinnamon roll. If you would like it to be thicker on top, add less milk to your mixture.
