17 Simple Ideas For 1st Christmas Gifts

Why are these good ideas for 1st Christmas gifts?

  • They grow with them- These toys are relevant now for your baby but many of them will also be loved well into their toddler years.

  • They help you too- The very best toys for babies will let them have a little fun on their own while you get a few things done.

  • They make meeting milestones fun- The best toys for your baby help them in the stage they are in right now. They make tummy time fun, comfort them when they are sleep training, give them something to crawl after, soothe their teething pains, and places to bounce and strenghten their adorably chubby legs.

  • No small pieces of course- Any good toy for a baby of course has no small pieces since babies put everything in their mouths.

A Water Mat For Tummy Time

If you have a baby that hates tummy time, a water play mat will be a gift that both of you will enjoy! With floating marine animals inside the mat, your baby will love it so much that they won’t realize they are in tummy time!

A Taggies Toy

Whoever created taggies was a pure genius. Babies love tags, so why not cover loveys and stuffed animals in tags. You can never have too many tags.

Start An Ornament Tradition

While your baby may not be able to appreciate a nice Christmas ornament, they will love getting a collection of ornaments when they are older. So, get your baby a nice ornament and start a tradition to buy them an ornament each year. And when they leave the house as an adult, they will have a beautiful collection of ornaments to hang on their own tree.

A Doorway Jumper

A doorway jumper is a great way to get your baby off their back and keep them entertained when you have chores to do around the house. They are also a fantastic way to introduce different textures. You can put the water mat I talked about before under the feet for them to bounce on, put water in a cookie sheet, or fill a cookie sheet with kinetic sand, oats, really anything!

A Crawling Crab

A crawling crab is a great toy to motivate kids who don’t want to lift their head up during tummy time and it will grow with them as they are learning to crawl too. Plus, it also has sensors to turn back around if it is about to hit something so it won’t constantly be slamming into your furniture (or your baby).

A Fun New Bath Toy

These wind up swimming turtles are perfect for both babies and toddlers to enjoy in the bath. They are fun for little babies to watch and for toddlers to wind up themselves.

A Custom Name Puzzle

I’ve gotten each of my kids a custom name puzzle for their first Christmas and I absolutely love the tradition. While they can’t use it at first, my toddlers now absolutely love their name puzzles and they are a little extra special.

Christmas Pajamas

One of my all time favorite traditions as a kid was getting Christmas jammies every Christmas eve. It’s an easy tradition to start and also makes for the most adorable pictures! Burts Bees Christmas pajamas are my personal favorite!

A New Cuddly Blanket

With how much babies spit up and have blow outs, you can never have too many baby blankets.

A New Teether

A good teether is a gift to everyone in the room with a teething baby. Your sweet baby gets relief from the pain and everyone else gets a break from the crying. This vibrating teether is our absolute favorite! It’s the only teether that will calm my baby when he’s teething.

A Crawl Through Play Tunnel

If you are trying to motivate your baby to crawl, this pop up tunnel might just do the trick, especially if there are older siblings crawling through the tunnel too. It doesn’t take up a lot of space and it’s a toy they will still enjoy for years as a toddler too!

A New Car Seat Toy

Whether your baby loves or hates the car, you can never go wrong with a new car seat toy.

A Fun New Rattle

I’ve been calming my baby on almost every car ride by shaking a rattle. Babies love those things way more than you might expect.

This dumbbell rattle is absolutely hilarious if your baby tends to join in on your workouts. But, this crochet rattle might just be the cutest thing ever.

This Winkel Ball

This teething ball rattle toy is great for babies of any age. It’s safe for newborns and fun for older babies too. It’s a teether, a toy, and a rattle all in one.

A Play Gym

My kids are obsessed with all things Baby Einstein. The piano on this Baby Einstein Play Gym rotates so your baby can lay on their back and kick it with their feet, use it for tummy time, or use it while sitting. It also can say everything in four different languages, which is fantastic for their brain development.

This Activity Center That Becomes a Table

We’ve had this activity center for all three of our kids and we absolutely love it! It converts from something your baby can sit in with toys that clip along the edge to a table for toddlers. The toys aren’t overstimulating and can be reorganized or taken off easily as you see fit. I honestly think this toy is nothing short of genius.

A Convertible Walker

While baby walkers are a fun toy, many of them are only used for a month or two at most. But, this Skip Hop Convertible Walker can also be turned into a shopping cart or baby walker as your kiddo gets bigger.
