While difficult, it is possible to create a non-toxic registry on a budget with this crunchy mama baby registry guide. This guide is all about identifying what products are most important to you while I share a few of my favorites.

How Do You Identify Toxic Products?
Companies don’t make it easy to find the toxic ingredients in their products. Ingredients and material lists are hard to find if you buy online and even if you manage, it’s filled with long fancy names that make it hard to understand. Plus, even once you do research it, it’s easy to forget.
That’s why I created this guide of common toxic chemicals in baby products and what they do as well as non toxic labels and what they mean. Print it out for FREE and use it for your baby shopping so you can feel confident about what you are buying. You can find it in the “checklist and guides” section of my FREE printables page.

Crunchy Sleep Essentials
A Non-Toxic Bassinet
The bassinet you choose is the very first thing your baby will sleep on outside of your body. So, don’t buy a toxic mattress and dye covered sheets. I bought the Baby Delight Bedside Bassinet and absolutely love it.
It can be used as a stand alone bassinet but it also has the option to unzip and roll down the side to use as a bedside bassinet, which made it a whole lot easier to get my baby in and out postpartum. It also has multiple different height settings so you can match up the height with your bed.
Burts Bees Sleep Sacks
Sleep sacks are a great swaddle alternative and/or a great way to transition from swaddles. Every one of my three kids has used them and the Burts Bees Wearable Blankets are my all time favorite. They come in multiple different sizes, different thicknesses for different seasons, adorable patterns, and are made from organic cotton.
A Metal Crib
It’s essentially inevitable that your baby will end up chewing on their crib at some point. Since I didn’t want my baby eating stain off a wood crib or chewing on a composite one, I opted for a metal crib. I still have that same crib three kids later and it doesn’t look like a beaver slept in it.
Organic Cotton Pajamas
Exclusively buying organic clothes gets expensive fast. So, if there is one clothing item I recommend buying organic, it’s pajamas. Your kids will be in their pajamas more than any other clothing item. They will sleep in them for 12 or more hours a night and then probably hang out in pajamas in the mornings too (if not all day).
Baby Booties
A good pair of baby booties that actually stay on are worth every penny. At the risk of sounding like a Burts Bees fan girl, I have to say that the Burts Bees baby booties are my all time favorite. They have multiple different buttons on the ankles to make sure they aren’t going to fall off constantly.
An Organic Cotton Lovey
Your baby will cuddle with, chew on, and sleep right next to their lovey. So, you’ll want to make sure that you don’t buy one with chemicals and dyes. I love the little organic lovey we bought our youngest.
Organic Cotton Baby Mittens
Baby finger nails are like little dagers. No matter how many times you cut them, they some how come back sharper. Baby mittens are the best way to keep their sweet little face and yours from constantly getting cut up. But, since they will probably cuddle their hands up to their face and chew on them all day long, you’ll want to find organic cotton scratch mittens.
Good Crib Mattress & Sheets
As crazy as it sounds (and is) many crib mattresses are filled with flame retardants, PVC, and polyurethane foam that is made from petroleum based chemicals. Then they are covered with polyester sheets, which is really just another form of plastic.
The Safety First heavenly Dreams Mattress isn’t perfect but it is a great budget option that is still Greenguard Gold certified.
And if you are looking for a good organic sheet that is still affordable, Burts Bees Baby Crib Sheets are insanely soft, cute, and durable.
A Self Cleaning Humidifier
Every year when sick season comes around, I find myself buying a new humidifier because the one from last year somehow didn’t fully dry out. Plus, those things are so darn hard to clean.
Instead, get a self cleaning humidifier. You can still use essential oils in it but you can feel better about it getting cleaned afterwards.
Crunchy Feeding Essentials
Glass Bottles to Pump Into
These glass bottles connect to most pumps brands and allow you to pump directly into glass rather than pumping warm milk into plastic. I’ve used these bottles in both even flo and medela pumps.
Breast Milk Storage Tray
There’s just something about pouring warm breastmilk into a plastic bag that didn’t sit well with me. And even once I let it cool off, I still wasn’t a huge fan. So, instead, I went searching for a tray to create cubes that were easy to thaw. These silicone trays make the bars that are perfect to slide into bottles.
Elvie catch cups
If you are truly a crunchy mom, you are likely going to save every last drop of breastmilk. Elvie catch cups are the best way to literally never waste a drop. They are insanely discreet and insanely comfortable too. I often forget I’m wearing them even though they each hold a full ounce of breastmilk.
Baby Food Freezing Trays
Don’t fall into the trap of thinking homemade baby food is some complicated science experiment and don’t let companies take advantage of you and sell you baby food makers that do nothing more than a blender does.
Read my guide HERE on how to make your own baby food and then grab these baby food freezer trays or a few silicone ice cube trays so you can have homemade baby food on hand at all times.
Reusable Food Pouches
Baby food pouches are easy, sure. But, they are also expensive and filled with who knows what. So, instead of spending a fortune on a quality baby food pouch that’s still plastic, buy these silicone food pouches to make your own.
You can fill them with homemade baby food (which is insanely easy to make by the way) and make your life super easy on the go with this spoon lid. Plus, once your baby is done with them, they are perfect for applesauce and yogurt pouches for toddlers on the go.
MAM Glass Bottles
Stop heating up breastmilk and formula in plastic bottles. There are tons of good glass bottle options out there. I personally like to use MAM glass bottles but they do not have an option for a silicone sleeve. So if you take your bottles out of the house a lot, you may want to opt for a Dr. Brown glass bottle, which does have protective sleeves.
A Good Back Up Formula
After getting the flu at four days postpartum, I realized the importance of having a good formula on hand. Even if you plan to breastfeed you never know what might happen.
Burts Bees Burp Cloths
I cant believe im this passionate about burp cloths, but I genuinely am amazed by the Burts Bees Burp Cloths. My first baby loved how soft they were so much, he ended up carrying one around with him everywhere as a “blanket.” He is now four and still carrying it around and it just finally is fraying some after being dragged around and chewed on for four years.
They are 100% organic cotton. They are also insanely absorbent and come in the most adorable patterns.
Earth Mama Nipple Butter
While you may not use nipple cream for very long, you’ll want to have a good one on hand at the beginning when your body is adjusting. The Earth Mama Nipple Butter was my favorite because your baby can eat immediately after you use it and it is completely lanolin free.
Stainless Baby Spoons
After I found these stainless steel baby spoons and toddler spoons, I quickly purged all my plastic baby silverware. Less toxins in my house and they are completely adorable. It’s a win win.
These Porcelain Divided Plates
While bamboo is slightly better than plastic, you still have no idea what adhesives were used to put it together. So, it’s best to avoid plastic and bamboo altogether. Instead, opt for these porcelain divided plates by Elk & Friends. They have a cover for the unavoidable toddler leftovers and a sleeve for the inevitable drops off the high chair.
Life Vac
Whether a crunchy mom or not, a life vac will always be on my list of feeding essentials. Having an anti choking device on hand is worth every penny should you ever need it.
Crunchy Bathing Essentials
Clean Baby Shampoo
Crunchy Diapering Essentials
Cloth Diapers
You can’t have a good crunchy mama baby registry guide without cloth diapers. While there are good clean diaper brands out there, you will spend a fortune to consistently use a good non toxic disposable diaper. So, even if you have every doubt in the world about cloth diapers, I recommend you give it a try. I promiseI had all those doubts too. Start with an inexpensive cloth diaper brand and just see what you think. I bought one pack of these and got hooked on cloth.
Diaper Cream
Since diaper rashes are bound to happen, especially once your baby starts teething, you’ll want good diaper cream. I absolutely love this goat milk diaper cream.
Crunchy Play Essentials
Non-Toxic Play Mat
We have the Play Platoon play mat in my kids’ room and I love it. It looks way more like a rug than a play mat, it’s so comfortable to get down and play with my kids, and I can rearrange it however I need.
Baby Delight Bouncer
My bouncer goes everywhere in the house with me and is a complete game changer when I need to get a few dishes done or finally take a shower. I personally love my Baby Delight bouncer, which has a 100% organic cotton cover that easily slides off in one piece to wash.
TEETHERS
It didn’t hit me to purge my teether stash until a fluid filled teether burst on my daughter. So, first of all, I don’t recommend the filled ones… Secondly, you’ll want to avoid bright colors and make sure they are free of BPA, PVC, phthalates, and lead. Since all they will do with a teether is chew on it, it’s worth a few extra bucks for a good one.
This post was all about creating a crunchy mama baby registry guide that lets you find clean products that both you and your budget feel good about.
