Unique Easter Egg Hunt Ideas
1. Use glow in the dark eggs
Do your Easter egg hunt the night before or in the early morning and use glow in the dark eggs instead. This idea works for young kids all the way up to teenageers and is also a fun alternative if the weather leaves you stuck inside for your egg hunt.
2. Add to their Croc charm collection
Last year, instead of Easter baskets and candy, I hid a new pair of crocs for each of my kids and then covered the yard in Easter eggs filled with croc charms. I bought this random pack of assorted croc charms and found plenty that my kids loved. Plus, you are getting 50 charms for under 10 dollars so I can’t complain about the few we didn’t use.
Each one of my kids excitedly ran around the hard collecting their color eggs with their charms in it and then sat on the porch to decorate their new crocs after we finished. They were so insanely excited and I didn’t have to add any more small toys in my house or give my kids sugar that would make them even more wild than they already are.
3. Play Easter egg chase
Tape or velcro Easter eggs onto you or your spouse (or both) and turn the Easter egg hunt into a game of chase. Everyone gets a workout in and you will make more memories than you can even imagine.
4. Easter egg deal or no deal
When my siblings and I got older and weren’t as fond of the classic Easter egg hunts, my dad developed deal or no deal. He put a dozen plastic Easter eggs into an egg carton and wrote a dollar amount on a piece of paper inside of each egg. The amounts started at a penny and went up to $20. But, you can decide the grand prize amount for whatever is best for your family.
We then had to pick out “our egg.” We held onto this egg while we selected eggs to open. My dad would then offer us pay outs and we had to decide if we would take the amount of keep playing for what was inside our egg.
I still remember all the hilarious memories playing this game with my family years later and I can’t wait to play it with my kids too.
5. Have their stuffed animals "hide" the eggs
If you have younger kids, have their stuffed animals “hide,” the eggs this year. Whether it be inside or outside, just put stuffed animals everywhere holding the Easter eggs. It’s insanely simple but the smiles on their faces will be priceless.
6. Hide the eggs in a ball pit
If you have a ball pit (or any sort of kiddie pool), you can very quickly and easily create a unique Easter egg hunt inside! This is a great option for little ones if Easter ends up being a rainy day.
Just grab your ball pit, kiddie pool, empty sandbox, or whatever you have, fill it with a bag of ball pit balls, and toss the eggs in too! You’ll have a super fun egg hunt and the perfect indoor toy for future rainy days too.
And if you don’t have anything to put the balls in, you can always use your bath tub too! It makes a great make shift ball pit and you can roll right into an Easter egg bath too once all the eggs are empty!
7. Have a contest of kids vs. parents
Fill all the eggs with candy/prizes/money whatever you like and then have the kids hide one color and the adults another color. Then, have each group find their color eggs while being timed. Whoever finds their eggs in the least amount of time is the winner. You can choose to have a prize for the winner or just opt for good ol’ fashion bragging rights.
8. Tie the eggs to balloons
If you have younger kids who may have a hard time finding hidden Easter eggs, make things a little easier for them by tying or taping a balloon onto each of the eggs.
9. Turn it into a treasure hunt for a family gift
Instead of filling Easter eggs with candy, fill them with clues and send your kids on a scavenger hunt for a family present. This can be one big prize for everyone to share or you could give each child color coded clues that take them to their personal Easter basket.
10. Puzzle piece egg hunt
If you plan to give your kids a large gift, like a trampoline for example, print out a picture of it and cut it into pieces. Place one piece inside of each egg and hide them. Send out all your kids to help search and put the pieces together as a team.
11. Lego egg hunt
I’m pretty sure my son is Lego’s biggest fan so I absolutely loved this idea when I saw it. Just make sure all the eggs are sealed tightly or you might end up with some missing pieces.
