It’s hard to decide what to put in a midwife gift basket. I mean, your midwife was there for you at one of the most vulnerable, intense, and emotional moments in your life.

Midwife Gift Basket
What Should You Use As The Basket?
While it might be called a gift basket, that doesn’t necessarily mean you have to use a basket. There are tons of different things you can fill with goodies for the perfect midwife thank you gift.
Here are just a couple other ideas you could try.
A Coffee Mug
Filling a cute coffee mug, like this sunshine mug, with chocolate is a super simple midwife thank you gift that they will love.
A Tumbler
Tumblers can be the perfect base for a midwife gift basket. An RTIC tumbler can keep things cold for DAYS, making it perfect for those extra long days as a midwife.
A Chicken Wire Caddy
Even though they are technically designed for eggs, chicken wire caddies make super adorable gift baskets.
A Flower Pot
If you know your midwife is a plant lover, a beautiful flower pot might just be the perfect basket alternative.
Midwife Thank You Gift Ideas
Before you start building your midwife gift basket, you’ll want to decide if it is solely for your midwife or if there is any other staff you want to thank. For example, my midwife works at an office with five other staff members. So, I decided to create a gift basket for the office and then a small separate gift basket for my midwife. Maybe you had a midwife and a doula you’d like to thank.
Regardless of whether you decide to make one big one, a small specialized one, or both, here are a few ideas of things to include.
Group Gift Ideas
Fun Colored Pens- Every nurse, midwife, and doctor is constantly charting and having to write stuff down. So, get them some colored pens to do it in style. These erasable pens are my absolute favorite!
Sticky Notes- When I saw how many sticky notes my midwife had in her office, I knew this one was a good choice.
Protein Bars- Babies don’t ever come when its convenient and midwives are often forced to eat at weird times or skip meals altogether, making a good protein bar a must.
Crunchy Snacks- Grab them something crunchy to stay awake during the long days and late nights.
Claw Clips- Since their hair has to be up all the time, cute claw clips are a fun option to switch things up.
Hair Ties or Scrunchies- You can never go wrong giving a girl more hair ties. They somehow seem to disappear into thin air it seems. I swear by these forever elastics to never stretch out or fall out of your hair!
Gum- Always good to have, especially for the long nights.
Chocolate- Need I say anything more.
Baked Goods- Making or buying a fun baked treat goes a long way with anyone.
If you decide to not create your own gift basket, you could also bring the staff a fruit tray, cookies, donuts, or a gift card to a local bakery or coffee shop so somebody can go on a run to treat the whole office next time they have a long day.
Individual Gifts for Midwife
Individual Gifts for Midwife
Reusable Coffee Mug or Tumbler- In my mind, you can never have too many tumblers or coffee mugs. You can use a large mug or tumbler as the “basket” for your midwife gift basket or added into a basket. I personally opted for an RTIC 20 oz. Travel Mug because I personally love RTIC tumblers. They are the perfect size to fit in cup holders, have a nice handle, and have kept ice in my coffee for days before!
Badge Reel- If your midwife or nurses are wearing scrubs a lot, new badge reels are a fun way to let them customize their outfits a little. I bought this one for my midwife and thought it was absolutely adorable!
Gift Card- A gift card for Starbucks or a local coffee shop is a perfect option to provide them with a little caffeine for the extra long shifts. Some other fun options include gift cards to a restaurant, bakery, or coffee shop near their home or office.
Something You Love- If you don’t know for sure what someone wants, sometimes it’s best to share a few things that you love with them. For example, I added my favorite erasable pens, my favorite RTIC tumbler, my favorite dark chocolate bar, and my favorite espresso and Reign energy drinks to my midwife gift baskets. (Plus, you can buy the drinks in bulk and keep some for postpartum too!)
Personalized Midwife Gifts
Your midwife thank you gifts don’t have to look like mine or any others you find on Pinterest! If you know your midwife well enough, personalized midwife gifts can make them feel a little extra appreciated! Here’s a few things to consider if you are trying to personalize your gift to your midwife thank you gift.
Their favorite color- If you decide to buy them a tumbler, colored pens, sticky notes, etc., consider trying to buy in their favorite color. It’s a very quick and easy question to ask prior to your delivery. But if you forget, you may be able to figure it out by the colors of their clothing and accessories.
A place they enjoy- If they have ever mentioned a restaurant, coffee shop, or store they really enjoy, try getting them a gift card to enjoy some time there.
A favorite food or treat- This is one you’ll probably have to remember to ask ahead of time, but buying them some of their favorites from a bakery or making them homemade will definitely make their day.
How Much Should You Spend on a Midwife Gift Basket?
How much you choose to spend is completely up to you! You might feel compelled to do something a little extra if they walked through a difficult pregnancy or delivery with you, you’ve used the same midwife (or team) multiple times, or your midwife simply went above and beyond to make it the best experience possible.
Regardless of what you choose or how much you spend, your midwife will feel special simply by you remembering them during such a crazy time in your life! So, don’t stress!
If you need a frame of reference for what it costs to create your own basket, I ended up spending around $40 on the tumbler gift basket above and about $40 on the basket for the nursing staff at our midwife office, which is also pictured above.
This post was all about finding gift ideas to fill a midwife gift basket that will let your midwife know just how much you appreciate all they did for you and your baby.
