Fortune Cookie Pregnancy Announcement

How hard is it to create a DIY pregnancy announcement?
I was amazed at just how easy it was to make myself and I was so glad I didn’t spend the money to order custom fortune cookies to announce it. Let me walk you through how to create your own custom fortune cookie in just a couple minutes!
1. Go get their favorite Chinese food
Once you know who you are planning to surprise with your news, whether it be your husband, friend, or family, go and grab some of their favorite Chinese food. Just make sure you ask for a few extra fortune cookies to make sure that you have enough to surprise all the people you want to and enough to make a mistake or two!
If you want to play it safe, you can also order a whole box of fortune cookies directly to your door courtesy of Amazon. (I honestly don’t know how I’d survive without Amazon Prime!)
2. Decide what you will write inside
You can use this fortune cookie to announcement your pregnancy or even announce gender! Here’s a few options of what you might want to write inside.
- “We’re Pregnant!”
- “The your last name ‘s are soon to be a family of #.”
- “It’s a girl!”
- “It’s a boy!”
- “You will soon be an (aunt, uncle, grandma, grandpa)!”
- “You can stop asking when we are going to have a baby now…”
- “Cutest tax deduction ever coming (due date month & year)”
- “And baby makes 3”
- “The best is yet to come in (due date month & year)”
3. Create your custom fortune
You have two options when it comes to creating your custom fortune, you can either choose to hand write it or type it up.
To type it up to look like a standard fortune cookie you’ll want to use the Courier font (which is available on Google Drive) in size 8 font. Once you print it off, simply cut around it so that it is two inches long and a half inch wide.
If you choose to write it by hand, I suggest using a blue pen since most fortunes are written in blue ink.
4. Cut a small slit in the back of the fortune cookie wrapper
Use a knife to carefully cut a slit under the fold of the wrapper. This way it won’t be noticeable when it gets taped back up.
5. Wrap the fortune cookie in a damp paper towel
Wet a paper towel and then squeeze it out until damp. Wrap up the fortune cookie in the paper towel and make sure it is fully covered.
6. Microwave it for 10-20 seconds or until the cookie has softened
Depending on your microwave you may need to microwave your fortune cookie for more or less time. I would try 15 seconds to start and go from there. Less is more because they are actually very easy to burn if you microwave them too long!
Once it has softened in the microwave, unwrap it and slightly pry it open just enough to take out the old fortune. Make sure you quickly move onto the next step before the cookie cools!
7. Put the fortune you made inside and close it back up
Once you are able to open the cookie and remove the old fortune, quickly put your new custom fortune inside and pinch the edges back together with your fingers.
8. Put the cookie back in the wrapper and reseal it
Carefully slide the cookie back into the original packaging and use a small piece of clear packaging tape to seal it back up under the fold.
9. SUPRISE
Make sure you sneak the fortune cookie back into the bag before anyone can notice and let them be shocked (and probably impressed) when they open their fortune! If you’re impatient like me, you may have to push them to open their fortune first so you don’t have to wait the whole meal in suspense!
